Describing themselves as “four pointy shoe wearing sun huggers with music to awaken the soul”, you might be pushed into thinking that Sundara Karma are a Beatles reformation band circa the Rishikesh visit of 1968.
OSCAR: Singer, Guitar
DOM: Bass Guitar
This might not be much to get all excited about in itself, but if you’re waiting for an ear stroking and unique mixture of sound combining the full-bodied indie of Two Door Cinema Club and tangents of uplifting new wave guitar, then sit up and pay attention.
This is music for warm Spring evenings (hurry up), unified dancing, lighter raising, feeling insignificant and emoting to the sky like you’re meeting your maker.
Oscar Pollock’s vocals are just well honed enough without losing fragility; drenched in reverb and with a tremulous Robert Smith tenor which, when snaking up into a higher range, releases a surge of romantic angst. The band as a whole handle their sound with a velvet glove, – with marching drum surges, sliding riffs, allusions to palm trees complete with controlled cries filled with echoes of emotional fervour, you can imagine one of their live performances to be a real crowd pleaser – a particularly intense cuddle of sound which raises the hairs on the back of your neck.
